John Torres is a medical contributor at NBC News, “Today Show,” MSNBC, and NBC News Now. An emergency room physician, Torres served for 32 years in the U.S. Air Force, Air Force Reserves, and Air National Guard, retiring as a colonel. He was a pilot during his active duty years, attended medical school, and returned as a physician and flight surgeon. Torres has contributed to South Pole rescue efforts and set up medical care units and led rescue missions after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Utilizing his combined medical and military experience he trains NATO Special Forces soldiers in skills including tactical combat casualty care, combat simulations, and medical leadership to help ensure consistency across nations, languages, and cultures. Additionally, Torres has made numerous humanitarian trips to Central and South America, providing medical care to children in need.
