Architects concern themselves with form, function, flow, and more recently, sustainability. But what role should beauty play in our built environment? And from whose perspective should beauty be judged? Recent developments in the field of neuroaesthetics have the potential to transform the design of the buildings we live, work, and play in, but to what extent can they be relied upon? And should our perception of beauty, if determined by biology, be the basis upon which our built environment is determined? If so, what, if anything, might we be missing?
