Tina Smith is a US senator for Minnesota, since 2018. An advocate for a clean energy economy, she introduced a bill in the previous Congress to establish a federal clean electricity standard (CES) to achieve net-zero emissions in the electric sector by midcentury, and is pushing for a strong CES in the current Congress. She has also successfully supported measures that strengthen energy storage capabilities and increase the pace of innovation for clean energy technologies. From 2014 to 2018, Smith was Minnesota’s lieutenant governor. She previously served as chief of staff to a Minneapolis mayor and Minnesota governor. Earlier in her career, she owned a small business and worked for General Mills.
