Susan E. Rice is President Obama’s national security advisor. From 2009 to 2013, she served as US permanent representative to the United Nations and a presidential cabinet member. Previously, she was senior advisor for national security affairs during Obama’s 2008 campaign and later served on the transition team’s advisory board, co-chairing its national security policy working group. Prior to that, Rice was a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution, assistant secretary of state for African affairs from 1997 to 2001, special assistant to President Clinton and senior director for African affairs at the National Security Council from 1995 to 1997, and director for international organizations and peacekeeping on the NSC staff.
