Spencer Cox
Governor, State of Utah
Spencer Cox is governor of Utah, serving since January 2021, and 2023-2024 chairman of the National Governors Association. A Republican, he was previously Utah’s lieutenant governor, appointed in 2013. Prior to that, Cox was briefly a member of the Utah House of Representatives. Earlier in his political career, he was a Sanpete County commissioner and mayor and city councilor of his native Fairview, Utah. He has also worked as an attorney. Cox’s priorities in office have been cutting taxes, water law and planning, and education funding, among others. He is an advocate for mental health resources, workforce-program funding and expanded opportunities for women and diverse communities. His initiative as chair of the NGA is entitled “Disagree Better: Healthy Conflict for Better Policy.”
