Simon Schama

University Professor of Art History and History, Columbia University

Simon Schama is University Professor of art history and history at Columbia University. He is a contributing editor of the Financial Times, author of 20 books and writer-presenter of over 50 documentaries on art, history and literature for BBC television, most recently his “History of Now” series that aired in 2022. His most recent book is “Foreign Bodies: Pandemics, Vaccines and the Health of Nations.” Schama taught at Cambridge, Oxford and Harvard before coming to Columbia in 1993. His honors include the 2006 National Book Critics Circle Award for nonfiction for “Rough Crossings: Britain, the Slaves and the American Revolution,” the 2015 Feltrinelli Prize for History, and the 2001 Broadcasting Press Guild Writer's Award, for “A History of Britain.”
