Shalanda Young is director of the U.S. Office of Management and Budget, the first Black woman to lead the agency. In this role, she has worked to secure funding for assistance to Ukraine, relief for communities impacted by natural disasters, and investments in child care, education, public health and climate. Young also helped negotiate the Fiscal Responsibility Act of 2023 that averted a debt default and lifted the debt ceiling. Previously, she was staff director for the House Appropriations Committee. Earlier in her career, Young was a presidential management fellow at the National Institutes of Health.
