Neal Katyal is the Paul and Patricia Saunders Professor of Law at Georgetown University and a partner at Hogan Lovells. He was previously acting solicitor general of the United States. Katyal has argued 48 cases before the U.S. Supreme Court, more than any other minority in U.S. history; cases include successfully striking down the Guantanamo military tribunals, defending the constitutionality of the Voting Rights Act, and defending the Peace Cross in Maryland. He is a trustee of Dartmouth College and the Whitney Museum. Katyal’s honors include the Edmund Randolph Award (the U.S. Justice Department’s highest civilian award), two-time Litigator of the Year by American Lawyer; being named one of 500 Leading Lawyers by LawDragon every year from 2005 to 2023, and National Law Journal’s pro bono award in 2004.
