Michael Conathan is a senior fellow at The Ocean Foundation and an independent ocean policy consultant. Prior to this, he was executive director of the High Seas Initiative and then a senior policy fellow of the Energy and Environment Program at the Aspen Institute. Previously, Conathan was director of ocean policy at the Center for American Progress and a Republican staffer on the U.S. Senate Subcommittee on Oceans, Atmosphere, Fisheries and Coast Guard. A co-founder of the National Ocean Protection Coalition, he is an advisory board member of the Center for the Blue Economy and a trustee of the Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences.
