Laura Marquez-Garrett is senior counsel at the Social Media Victims Law Center, an organization formed in 2021 to hold Big Tech companies accountable for the harms their products cause children, teens and families. Representing more than 4,000 families through SMVLC, they have filed more than 1,000 complaints in state and federal courts across the U.S. and frequently engages on these topics with policymakers, law enforcement, parents, teachers, researchers and journalists. Marquez-Garrett previously worked in private practice law, most recently at Lane Powell, where they founded, led and specialized in the firm’s electronic discovery practice group. They are a board member of Fairplay, a children’s media and marketing industry watchdog, advisory board member of Phone-Free Schools Movement and member of the National LGBT Bar Association and La Raza National Council.
