Kwame Alexander is an author and producer. He has written 39 books, including The Door of No Return, Why Fathers Cry at Night: A Memoir, Rebound, Undefeated, and Becoming Muhammad Ali. In January, Alexander’s musical, Acoustic Rooster’s Barnyard Boogie: Starring Indigo Blume, based on his children’s books Acoustic Rooster and Indigo Blume, began a Kennedy Center-commissioned national tour. He is also the writer and executive producer of “The Crossover” TV series, based on his Newbery Medal-winning novel. Co-founder of LEAP for Ghana international literacy program, he opened the Barbara E. Alexander Memorial Library and Health Clinic there in 2018. Alexander’s recognition includes the Lee Bennett Hopkins Poetry Award, Coretta Scott King Author Honor, and 2017 Inaugural Pat Conroy Legacy Award.
