
Julian Gewirtz
Doctoral Candidate, Modern Chinese History, Oxford University; Author, Unlikely Partners
Julian Baird Gewirtz is a Rhodes scholar at Oxford University, where he is completing his doctorate in modern Chinese history. He is the author of Unlikely Partners: Chinese Reformers, Western Economists, and the Making of Global China, which The Economist called “a gripping read.” Fluent in Chinese, Gewirtz has worked in China and the United States for Alibaba, Facebook, and Caijing magazine, and most recently served as special advisor for international affairs at the U.S. Department of Energy. Gewirtz’s writing on Asia has been published by Foreign Affairs, The American Scholar, Financial Times, The Wall Street Journal, and The Washington Post. For the 2017-2018 academic year, he will be a fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School.
