John Ridley is a filmmaker, screenwriter, and showrunner. He is the creator, director, and executive producer of ABC’s Emmy-winning series “American Crime,” and his limited series “Guerilla,” with Idris Elba, Freida Pinto, and Babou Ceesay, aired in April 2017 on Showtime and Sky. Also in April, Let It Fall: Los Angeles 1982–1992, Ridley’s critically acclaimed documentary about the Los Angeles uprising, premiered in theaters and aired on ABC. Among his previous films, Ridley is probably best known as the screenwriter for 12 Years a Slave, which won the 2013 Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay, among many other honors. He is also a novelist and has written a stage play.
