
James Crapo is a professor of medicine at University of Colorado, Denver and National Jewish Health. A leader in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and oxidative stress, he chaired the National Jewish Health Department of Medicine from 1996 to 2004 and was chief of Duke University’s Division of Allergy, Critical Care and Respiratory Medicine for 17 years. Crapo is a principal investigator for the COPDGene project, a genetic epidemiology study to identify the primary genes that determine risk for developing COPD and subtypes of COPD that underlie risk, prognosis, or response to therapy. Author of over 300 publications, he’s editor in chief of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Diseases: Journal of the COPD Foundation.
