James Balog is founder and director of the Earth Vision Institute, a nonprofit integrating art and science to reveal environmental change, and Extreme Ice Survey, a photographic glacier study. A scientist and environmental photographer, he has been documenting human modification of natural systems for 35 years. His photos have been published in magazines including National Geographic and exhibited at museums and galleries worldwide. Balog authored ICE: Portraits of Vanishing Glaciers and seven other books. He and his Extreme Ice Survey team are featured in the 2012 Emmy-winning documentary Chasing Ice and the 2009 PBS/NOVA special, Extreme Ice. Balog has presented at international conferences on climate change, including COP 21 in Paris.
