Heather Lane is senior architect of the Data Science team and Data subdivision of Platform and Data Services at athenahealth, where she has technical oversight of machine learning, artificial intelligence, and natural language processing activities. Early in her career, after a postdoc in the CSAIL lab at MIT studying reinforcement learning and decision theory, Lane became a professor of computer science at the University of New Mexico. After ten years there, researching machine learning with applications to biosciences and neuroscience, she worked for Google for five years before moving to athenahealth to head the development of its Data Science team. Since joining athenahealth, Lane has overseen development of more than a dozen machine learning projects that collectively provide tens of millions of dollars of annual cost savings to athenahealth and its customers.
