Donté Clark
Poet; Playwright; Creative Coordinator, RYSE Center
Donte Clark is a poet, playwright, emcee, educator, and activist from Richmond, CA. In 2008, he co-founded RAW Talent, which has since merged with the RYSE Center to become its music and performing arts program, through which Clark mentors Richmond youth artists and directs them in an annual multimedia theatrical production as the center’s creative coordinator. Clark’s life story is featured in a documentary film, Romeo Is Bleeding, which has been screening across the country at various film festivals. His primary focus is ending the violence that has plagued his community, using his art and curriculum as a call to action. In 2014, Clark was elected Richmond’s poet laureate.
