Donald Zilkha is the owner of Zilkha Partners, an investment partnership with a focus on small-capitalization companies that he founded in 2006, and is involved in private equity and venture capital with emphasis on branding, biotech, data-based companies, and communications. In 1994, Zilkha took control of firearms manufacturer Colt’s Manufacturing Company, which was then operating under Chapter 11 — successfully exiting the investment in 2013. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the Business Council of the Metropolitan Museum. Co-author of the reference guide The Crus Bourgeois du Medoc: Bordeaux: An Exploratory Journey, he is also involved in various food and wine organizations.
