Cristina Mittermeier

Cristina Mittermeier is a conservation photographer, marine biologist, speaker and co-founder of SeaLegacy, a global conservation, education and communication agency for the ocean. Believing that visual storytelling is key to unlocking action to help save the planet, her work showcases landscapes, endangered wildlife and connections between indigenous communities and their surroundings. It has been exhibited in galleries around the world and published in National Geographic, TIME, McLean’s and many others. Mittermeier previously founded the International League of Conservation Photographers. As a marine biologist early in her career, she conducted studies of marine ecosystems worldwide, witnessing the decline of oceans due to overfishing, pollution and climate change and prompting a career change. Her recognition includes the Smithsonian Conservation Photographer of the Year Award, the Imaging Award for Photographers Who Give Back and Travel + Leisure’s Global Vision Award.
