Caty Borum Chattoo

Caty Borum Chattoo is executive director of the Center for Media and Social Impact and a professor at the School of Communication at American University. A producer, executive, and scholar working at the intersection of documentary, entertainment media, and social justice, her research has appeared in the Journal of Communication; Media, Culture and Society; and the Journal of Broadcasting and Electronic Media, among others. Chattoo is co-author of A Comedian and An Activist Walk into a Bar: The Serious Role of Comedy in Social Justice. Her book, Story Movements: How Documentaries Empower People and Inspire Social Change, received the 2021 Broadcast Education Association Book Award. She was named to Doc NYC’s 2020 list of New Documentary Leaders.
