Carl Schmid is deputy executive director of The AIDS Institute, leading the organization’s federal policy work before executive agencies and Congress. He is a Convening Group member of the Federal AIDS Policy Partnership and co-chairs its AIDS Budget and Appropriations Coalition. In 2018, Schmid was appointed co-chair of the Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS, on which he previously served from 2007 to 2009, and as a consumer representative to the National Association of Insurance Commissioners. He has been with The AIDS Institute since 2004. Schmid has been named one of the 100 most effective AIDS fighters by POZ Magazine and 2016 Champion of the Year by ADAP Advocacy Organization.
