Anthony Foxx was US secretary of transportation from 2013 to 2017. Confirmed by a 100-0 Senate vote, he pressed Congress to pass the nation’s first long-term surface transportation bill in over a decade, launched the Smart City Challenge, and released Beyond Traffic, a report on the long-term challenges facing American infrastructure. From 2009 to 2013, Foxx was mayor of Charlotte, NC, making transportation investments the centerpiece of the city’s job creation and economic recovery efforts. Previously, he served two terms on Charlotte City Council, was staff counsel to the US House of Representatives Judiciary Committee, and was a trial attorney for the US Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division.
