Anabel Hernández is a Mexican investigative journalist. During her three-decade career, she has spent the last 22 years investigating Mexico’s drug cartels and the corruption, human rights violations, forced disappearances and abuses of power of the Mexican government for Mexican publications. Hernández has twice been a fellow in University of California, Berkeley’s Investigative Reporting Program. She is the author of four books, most recently “The Traitor: Inside the World’s Most Powerful Drug Cartel.” Her honors include the Deutsche Welle (Germany) Freedom of Speech Award, the El Mundo (Spanish newspaper) International Journalism Award, the French Legion of Honor in 2017, being named one of Reporters Without Borders’ 100 Information Heroes in 2014, the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers’ 2012 Golden Pen of Freedom and Mexico’s National Journalism Award in 2001.
