Alex Harris is the lead climate and environment reporter at the Miami Herald, where her team covers how Florida is adapting to rising seas and a warming world. She has been with the Miami Herald since 2015, working in roles including higher education reporter and breaking news reporter. Prior to that, Harris was a correspondent for The Gainesville Sun, a stringer for the Associated Press, and online editor and editor-in-chief of The Independent Florida Alligator, the student newspaper at University of Florida. Her work has been honored by the Society of Environmental Journalism, the Florida Press Club, the Society of American Travel Writers Foundation, and others. She was on the team that won a Pulitzer Prize in 2022 for the Herald’s coverage of the Surfside building collapse.
