Founder and Executive Director, Black Girl Environmentalist

Wawa Gatheru is the founder and executive director of Black Girl Environmentalist, a national organization dedicated to empowering Black girls and women in the climate sector. BGE has been featured in Vogue, The New York Times and Fast Company, among other publications. A Rhodes Scholar and public speaker, Gatheru is a member of the inaugural National Environmental Youth Advisory Council at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. She is a board and advisory council member of Earthjustice, Climate Power, Environmental Media Association and National Parks Conservation Association. Named to the Forbes 30 under 30 list, Gatheru’s recognition also includes being named a Grist 50 Fixer, Gucci Changemaker and Climate Creator to Watch by Pique Action and the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.
