Wahleah Johns

Wahleah Johns is the director of the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Indian Energy Policy and Programs and a member of the Navajo (Diné) tribe. She is responsible for maximizing the development and deployment of clean energy solutions to benefit American Indians and Alaska Natives. Prior to this, Johns co-founded Native Renewables, a nonprofit building tribal renewable-energy capacity while addressing energy access. Previously, she was a solar project coordinator with Black Mesa Water Coalition and Navajo Green Economy Coalition, helping achieve legislative victories for groundwater protection, green jobs and environmental justice. Johns’ recognition includes the 2019 Nathan Cummings Foundation Fellowship.
