Sean Decatur

President, American Museum of Natural History

Sean Decatur is president of the American Museum of Natural History. He was previously president of Kenyon College for nearly a decade and dean of arts and sciences at Oberlin College, where he was also a professor of chemistry and biochemistry. Earlier, he was a professor at Mount Holyoke College, where he helped establish a top biophysical chemistry research program, and a visiting scientist at MIT. Decatur has won research grants from the National Science Foundation and National Institutes of Health, among others. He serves on the boards of Swarthmore College, the Research Corporation for Science Advancement and the Joyce Foundation. A 2023 Foreign Policy Association Medal awardee, he’s a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
