Sally Buzbee is executive editor of The Washington Post, the first woman to lead the newsroom in its 144-year history. She previously had a lengthy career at the Associated Press, most recently as executive editor and senior vice president. Prior to that, Buzbee was AP’s Washington bureau chief, its Middle East regional editor based in Cairo, and assistant bureau chief for news in Washington, DC. Buzbee joined AP in 1988 as a reporter in Kansas and also worked as a reporter in Los Angeles, San Diego, and Washington. Under her leadership, The Washington Post newsroom won a Pulitzer Prize for Public Service for its coverage of the January 6 attack on the US Capitol. Buzbee is a board member of the Committee to Protect Journalists.
