Michael Berkowitz

Executive Director, University of Miami Climate Resilience Academy

Michael Berkowitz is founding executive director of the Climate Resilience Academy at University of Miami, where he is also the Eric T. Levin chair in climate resilience. Prior to this, Berkowitz was a founding principal at Resilient Cities Catalyst. Previously, he was the founder and president of 100 Resilient Cities at the Rockefeller Foundation and global head of operational risk management at Deutsche Bank. Earlier in his career, Berkowitz was deputy commissioner at New York City’s Office of Emergency Management, where he worked on the coastal storm, biological terrorism and transit strike contingencies. A senior adviser to Resilient Cities Catalyst, Berkowitz also serves on the Deltares international advisory board, FEMA’s National Advisory Commission and the World Resource Institute's Ross Center Cities Prize advisory council.
