U.S. Secretary of Energy

Jennifer Granholm is the U.S. secretary of energy. She leads the department of energy’s work to advance clean energy technologies to help the United States achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 while creating jobs and building an equitable economy. Granholm also oversees the promotion of American leadership in scientific discovery, maintaining the nuclear deterrent and reducing nuclear danger, and remediating environmental harms caused by legacy defense programs. Prior to this, she was a distinguished professor of practice at University of California, Berkeley’s Goldman School of Public Policy. There, Granholm focused on the intersection of law, clean energy, manufacturing, policy and industry. Previously, she was the governor of Michigan for two terms, 2003 to 2011.
