After much deliberation, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Aspen Ideas Festival and Aspen Ideas: Health. We choose to prioritize the health and safety of our attendees, speakers, staff, and countless volunteers, and signal our respect for those both locally and globally who are struggling with the consequences of this outbreak.
Taking our cues from health professionals with whom we are closely engaged, we are committed to doing our part to help flatten the curve. Simply stated: While we are optimistic that this situation will stabilize in the coming months, we don’t want to move forward and compel any of our speakers, attendees, or staff to commit to traveling to Aspen before we — or they — are confident it can be done safely for them and for the respective communities where they would return to.
Moreover, given the magnitude of our production, we feel it infeasible to efficiently organize the event while maintaining the recommended social distance in the weeks leading up to it.
All said, we are not stepping away from our passion to elevate ideas! Aspen Ideas has always endeavored to bring to the stage the most diverse, substantive, and expert thinkers and leaders to illuminate the challenges we face as a society. We strive to present the kinds of ideas and solutions that will move us forward ... and so we will. In our commitment to address critical issues and elevate amazing solutions, we are exploring new models of presentation.
