Deborah Archer

President, American Civil Liberties Union; Margaret B. Hoppin Professor of Clinical Law and Faculty Director, Community Equity Lab, New York University School of Law

Deborah Archer is president of the American Civil Liberties Union. An attorney, scholar and expert on civil rights and racial justice, she’s also the Margaret B. Hoppin Professor of Clinical Law and faculty director of the Community Equity Lab at New York University School of Law. Previously, Archer worked as an attorney with the ACLU and the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, where she litigated in the areas of voting rights, employment discrimination and school desegregation. She is a former chair of the New York City Civilian Complaint Review Board, among other service. The recipient of numerous awards, Archer is the author of the forthcoming book, “Dividing Lines: How Transportation Infrastructure Reinforces Racial Inequality.”
