The 1869 development of plastic was a revolutionary technological shift, one that allowed humans to create beyond the confines of natural materials. But today, that miraculous material is found in everything from the bellies of the fish we eat to the snow at the top of the Himalayas. What can we do to end the plague of single-use plastic, especially as recycling systems are failing? And how are consumers and (especially) corporations starting to wrap their arms around the mess we’ve created?
