YouTube is the world’s largest video-sharing platform, and allows people around the world to learn more about the topics and content that matters to them. Whether it’s mastering a new skill, like [playing the guitar], exploring a new interest, like [gardening], or solving a practical challenge, like [fixing a leaky faucet], people know they can find a video on YouTube that will help them discover more.
All of that learning and discovery is possible because of the smart, creative people behind those videos we love and value.
YouTube has opened the door for millions of those Creators to share directly in the revenue created from the videos they make and upload. There are now more than 2 million channels around the world who receive checks directly from YouTube, paying them for the advertising that runs on their videos. These Creators make more than 50% of the revenue YouTube earns for selling that advertising, and in the past three years, YouTube has paid more than $30 billion to creators, artists, and media companies.
The net result is that Creators are able to build thriving businesses by helping people to learn and discover on any topic under the sun, through this new way to earn money for teaching, entertaining or demonstrating their skills.
By lowering the barriers to entry and making it easier for everyone to participate, we see greater diversity in both the people who create videos for YouTube and the topics they make videos about.
