Telling Our Stories

Telling Our Stories
Due to the breadth of certain topics, three program tracks will offer conversations across both Fest 1 and Fest 2. Additionally, focused attention will be given to four different subjects during each half of the Festival. Spotlight: Health kicks off the week as a focused, two-and-a-half day forum.
Telling Our Stories
Telling Our Stories
Shaping and sharing narratives enables us to create context, humanize information, and simplify interpretation. Whether news media or the book, film, interactive games, television, music, theater, or legends, how we choose to tell stories is increasingly fundamental to the exchange of ideas. Processing the world around us is increasingly more complex as we are presented with multiple channels for data, news, and entertainment at every turn — some that we create ourselves, some that others create for us. Will advances in technology and communications reshape our storytelling over the next decade? Will we receive and share information in new ways yet unfolding? From the ancient storytelling practices found in our religious traditions to the current small, serialized reports on social media, we continue to be gripped by the power of words, written or expressed aloud. How will this art of the story evolve in the future? New media, same vessels?
We will explore the art and practice of telling stories, looking ahead to the ways technology might serve as new platform for delivery, understanding, and appreciation.
