Co-Founder, Voice of Women; Former Deputy Ambassador to the United Nations, Maldives
Thilmeeza Hussain is co-founder of Voice of Women, a Maldivian organization working on issues of women’s empowerment, human rights, and climate change. She is a lecturer of sustainability and global warming at Ramapo College of New Jersey and a 2018 Aspen New Voices Fellow. Previously, she was deputy ambassador to the United Nations from the Maldives and minister of state for home affairs from the North Province, a team member of the first democratically elected government in the country. She has been interviewed by Public Radio International and National Public Radio, addressed UN audiences at international climate meetings, and shared the stage with the former US ambassador for global women’s affairs.
