Sonia Angell
Deputy Commissioner, New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene; Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine, Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons
Sonia Angell is deputy commissioner at the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, overseeing the Division of Prevention and Primary Care, which works to improve population health. She’s a faculty member of Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons and an assistant attending physician at New York Presbyterian Hospital. Previously, Angell established and led the Global Noncommunicable Disease Unit at the CDC and directed the Cardiovascular Disease Program at the NYC Health Department. A former Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholar, she’s a member of the Lancet Commission on Hypertension, a fellow of the Health Innovators Fellowship, and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network.
