Director of Strategy, #cut50; Author, Writing My Wrongs

Shaka Senghor is strategy director for #cut50, a bipartisan initiative to safely and smartly reduce the US incarcerated population by 50 percent. He is founder of the Atonement Project and teacher of a course on it at University of Michigan, recipient of the 2012 Black Male Engagement Leadership Award, a 2013 MIT Media Lab Director’s Fellow, and a fellow in the W.K. Kellogg Foundation’s Community Leadership Network. Senghor’s TED talk about transforming his life during 19 years in prison has reached over one million views. He wrote a memoir, Writing My Wrongs, and a collection of essays and poems, Live in Peace: A Youth Guide to Turning Hurt into Hope.
