Sanford Biggers is a conceptual artist who examines the inherent tensions of history and culture, language and symbol, and myth and narrative. His work encompasses painting, sculpture, video, photography, mixed media, music, and performance and offers new understandings of collective mythologies and traditions. Biggers has had solo exhibitions at museums and galleries nationally and internationally. He has produced numerous public installations, such as his monumental sculpture “Oracle” featured at Rockefeller Center in New York and the outdoor sculpture pedestal at Hammer Museum in Los Angeles. Biggers recently completed installations for the Portland International Airport in Oregon and the music building at Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
