Rebecca Skloot
Science Writer; Author, The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks
Rebecca Skloot is author of the NYT Bestseller, The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, which was translated into 28 languages and made into an Emmy-nominated HBO film. Skloot is founder and president of The Henrietta Lacks Foundation, which provides financial assistance to those who were involved in historic scientific research studies without their consent. Before becoming a writer, Skloot worked as a veterinary technician in vet clinics, research facilities, animal shelters and a veterinary morgue. Those experiences, and the ethical questions they prompted, inspired her current book-in-progress. It tackles the often-controversial topic of animal research and animal rights through a deeply personal story about the roles animals play in our lives and in science, and the humans who battle over their fates and as a result, our own.
