Ray LaHood is a senior policy advisor for DLA Piper. As secretary of the US Transportation Department from 2009 to 2013, he led efforts to improve safety and infrastructure and achieve more stringent fuel-efficiency requirements, among other accomplishmentsLaHood’s 36-year career in public service also includes serving in the US House of Representatives (R-IL) from 1995 to 2009, as chief of staff to House minority leader Robert Michel from 1982 to 1994, as district administrative assistant for congressman Tom Railsback from 1977 to 1982, as chief planner of the BiStates Metropolitan Planning Commission, and as director of the Rock Island County Youth Services Bureau.
