Mona Eltahawy is an award-winning columnist and an international public speaker on Arab and Muslim issues. Her opinion pieces have been published frequently in media across the world, including in The Washington Post and International Herald Tribune. She is writing a book on the need for a social and sexual revolution in the Middle East and North Africa. In November 2011, Egyptian riot police beat and sexually assaulted her, and she was detained for twelve hours by the interior ministry and military intelligence.
