Mitch Besser is founder and medical director of mothers2mothers, which he launched in 2001 after recognizing a need for education and support services to improve the prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV (PMTCT) in sub-Saharan Africa. m2m employs and trains mothers living with HIV to work in under-resourced health centers, helping HIV-positive women access and adhere to medical interventions. m2m provides services at more than 400 sites and is part of the UN’s Global Plan to end pediatric AIDS by 2015.
