
Michael Murphy
Co-Founder and Executive Director, MASS Design Group
Michael Murphy is founder and executive director of MASS Design Group, an architecture and design collaborative that leverages buildings, as well as the design and construction process, to become catalysts for economic growth, social change, and justice. He teaches at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservations. Murphy’s 2016 TED talk on “architecture that’s built to heal” has reached over a million views, and MASS won the 2017 Cooper Hewitt National Design Award. Murphy is co-author of the book Empowering Architecture. He sits on the boards of the Clinton Global Initiative Advisory Committee, the Harvard Graduate School of Design Alumni, and the Center for Healthcare Design.
