Michael Murphy

President, Michael P. Murphy Studio

Michael Murphy is president of Michael P. Murphy Studio, focused on spatial change and transformation in the public realm. He is also the Thomas Ventulett Chair of Architecture at Georgia Tech. An architect, artist, educator and writer, Murphy previously partnered with Hank Willis Thomas on “The Embrace” and led the design of the 1965 Freedom March Plaza as founder and executive director of MASS Design Group. There, he was lead designer of the Butaro District Hospital, National Memorial for Peace and Justice, and National Gun Violence Memorial. Murphy is the author of “The Architecture of Health,” which traces the history of medical design and its attempt to align architecture with health outcomes. He is a board member of MASS Design Group.
