Martin Walsh

Martin J. Walsh is mayor of the City of Boston. Prior to his 2014 swearing-in, he was head of the Building and Construction Trades Council of the Metropolitan District from 2011 to 2013. As a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives from 1997 to 2013, he authored public construction law reforms, helped pass “smart growth district” legislation, was a strong supporter of infrastructure and zoning improvements, and became known as a leader on substance abuse and recovery issues. A co-founder and former board member of Neighborhood House Public Charter School, Walsh has long been an advocate for strong public schools. He started his career as a union laborer.
