Louis Hyman is an assistant professor in the ILR School of Cornell University and teaches the EdX MOOC (massive open online course) American Capitalism: A History. His first book, Debtor Nation: The History of America in Red Ink, traces the history of personal debt from the margins of capitalism to its center and was selected as one of Choice magazine’s 25 Outstanding Academic Titles of 2011. His second book, Borrow: The American Way of Debt, explained how American culture shaped finance and in turn how finance shaped culture. He has served as consultant for McKinsey & Company.
