Linda Malkas is a professor of molecular and cellular biology at City of Hope, where she is deputy director for basic research and co-founder of the molecular oncology program. An expert in DNA replication and repair, as well as cancer cell biomarker and therapeutic target discovery, Malkas has advanced research in women’s health, with a focus on breast cancer. She’s best known for discovering a molecule that can inhibit certain activities in cancerous cells. Malkas was recently named to the board of CIRM, California’s stem-cell research center. She came to City of Hope specifically for its reputation as a place where laboratory discoveries quickly make their way to patients. (Festival Underwriter Presenter)
