Kristalina Georgieva is managing director of the International Monetary Fund.Previously, she was CEO of the World Bank, European Commission vice president for budget and human resources, and its commissioner for international cooperation, humanitarian aid, and crisis response. Georgieva began her public-service career at the World Bank as an environmental economist in 1993, moving through many senior positions in 17 years. She has authored or co-authored over 100 publications on environmental and economic policy, including textbooks on macro- and microeconomics. Georgieva co-chairs the Global Commission on Adaptation and the United Nations Secretary-General’s High-Level Panel on Humanitarian Financing. Her honors include the Atlantic Council’s 2020 Distinguished International Leadership Award in acknowledgement of exceptional and distinctive contributions in public service.
