Co-Founder, President, and CEO, Shining Hope for Communities

Kennedy Odede is a community organizer, social entrepreneur, and co-founder, president, and CEO of Shining Hope for Communities (SHOFCO), which serves over 220,000 people across Kenya’s slums. A resident of Nairobi’s Kibera slum for 23 years, he saved 20 cents to buy a soccer ball and start SHOFCO in 2009. Odede has been an Echoing Green fellow and served on the UN International Commission for Financing of Global Education Opportunities. He has written op-eds for The New York Times, CNN, and Project Syndicate and is the New York Times best-selling co-author, with his wife and business partner Jessica Posner, of Find Me Unafraid: Love, Loss and Hope in an African Slum.
