Justin Kasper is an astrophysicist at the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory. He leads the SWEAP Investigation, an international team building instruments to collect the first direct samples of the solar atmosphere on NASA’s upcoming Solar Probe Plus mission to study the sun. Kasper’s research interests include solar flares, the million-degree solar atmosphere, and the impact of space weather on society. Kasper has written about the solar cycle, the solar wind, and a massive shockwave surrounding our solar system called the termination shock.
